Museums & Churches
This is a glimpse into Zurich's heart, from the cradle of the religious reformation in the 16th century at the Grossmüster to modern impressionists in the Kunsthaus.
The museum collection of the University of Zurich is FREE

Paleontological Museum
Kunsthaus (Art Museum): The magnificent permanent exhibit is FREE on Wednesdays. Absolutely not to miss the Gates to Hell by Rodin (museum's entrance)
National Museum (Landesmuseum): The entry ticket to this innovative museum is CHF 10.00. However, the "Simply Zurich" permanent exhibit is FREE Marvel at the modern building extension in juxtaposition with historicism.
Grossmünster: Giacometti & Polke Windows, as well as the crypt are FREE Access the south tower and Harald Naegely's "dancing deaths" for CHF 5.00
Fraumünster: Giacometti and Chagall Windows, as well as the crypt cost CHF 5.00. A visit to the cloister is FREE
St. Peter Church: A peaceful and harmonious place of worship, FREE. Largest clock face on a tower in Europe.
Waterchurch: Giacometti Windows and the Martyr Stone. Fun Fact: Find the Bugatti car hidden in one of the stained-glass windows! FREE
Public Art & Architecture
Works of art in spaces accessible to the public, from the classic and exquisite to the eccentric and symbolic, abound in Zurich. Here are a few examples.
Train Station: The unmissable Guardian Angel (a.ka. Blue Angel) freely hanging on the ceiling & the often overlooked Centenary Ball (in the middle of the main hall inside the floor) FREE
Graphische Sammlung: Collection of Prints and Drawings from the 15th century onwards. Check opening hours online FREE
Ganymede: Imposing bronze sculpture with a dramatic backdrop of the lake and Swiss Alps, depicting the abduction of Ganymede by Zeus (Bürkliplatz) FREE
“Heureka” Sculpture: Find this fully functional kinetic sculpture by the famous Swiss artist Jean Tinguely on the lake shore (Zürichhorn) FREE
Helmhouse: Gallery with contemporary works, mainly by Swiss artists or artists who have lived in Switzerland FREE
Panoramas & views
Some locations are easily reachable by foot or public transportation and offer unparalleled views of the city, lake, and, on a clear day, even the Alps.
Visit the ETH Zurich Main Building: The main building of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), designed by Gottfried Semper, is open to visitors. You can also enjoy the breathtaking view from the Polyterrasse FREE
Karlsturm (Grossmünster): The ticket to climb almost 200 steps costs CHF 5.00, but the unmatched view over the city is quite worth it.
Uetliberg: A breathtaking view of the city, the lake, and the surroundings. On clear days, you can even marvel at the Swiss Alps. FREE to climb up and down. Alternatively, take the S10 train from Zurich HB (paid).
Nature & Sports
Hiking, walking, strolling: so many hiking paths, gardens, and parks to choose from! 40% of the city of Zurich is Green! FREE
Hike up Uetliberg Mountain For panoramic views of Zurich and the Alps, hike or take a free ride on the local train to Uetliberg. The summit provides well-marked trails and breathtaking scenery for FREE
Botanical Gardens: the new Botanical Garden (15 min from Bellevue) and the old one (city center) are oases of tranquility & peace FREE
Relax by Lake Zurich Lake Zurich is a centerpiece of the city, perfect for leisurely walks, cycling, or simply enjoying the view. The promenade offers stunning vistas, and during summer, locals and tourists alike gather for picnics and swims FREE
Succulent Collection: the most extensive cacti collection worldwide FREE
Stroll Through Old Town (Altstadt) Wander through the narrow, winding streets of Zurich’s Old Town, where medieval architecture meets contemporary boutiques and cafes. Highlights include the Grossmünster, Fraumünster, and the charming squares of Niederdorf and Oberdorf FREE

Visit James Joyce’s grave: Fluntern Church graveyard FREE
Water: Excellent water from over 1200 fountains is FREE, yet most restaurants charge for tap water. Ask if it is free.
